Carnival with toddlers: Tips for the carnival party

Carnival, Shrovetide, Carnival? The main thing is that it should be loud, colorful and fun with the kids. However, you should celebrate a little slower with small children, otherwise you risk that both you and the children are overwhelmed. Often a few items on the program are enough to set the mood. Less is often more.

So here are 4 suggestions and tips - From general conditions, costume tips, game ideas to music and decorations.

Tip No. 1 Guests and space

As with any children's birthday party, the number of guests should not significantly exceed the age of the child. For example, if your child is 3 years old, you should invite 3-4 little carnival mice. (Of course, this is not possible in parent-child groups. The rooms are usually much larger and children are used to sharing a room with many other children).

When decorating, make sure there is enough room to let off steam, run around and play.

Tip No. 2 Finding the right carnival costume

A Mardi Gras costume should be one thing above all else: FASHIONABLE! Nothing annoys a toddler as much as an itchy wig or a costume they can't move well in. It should also be appropriate for the temperature. A plush costume looks cute, but may be too warm indoors.

Many children also don't like to wear makeup or don't want to wear something on their head. It's all about the fun of dressing up, not the perfect costume, so the little ones' wishes should be respected.

Especially practical is a costume cape. Under it, child can easily wear a thin sweater and tights or leggings. Children also like to wear simple tops like the bee. The full body suit is also comfortable if children like it.

Be careful with crawling babies, as capes can quickly become impractical. For babies, we therefore recommend costume bodysuits or cuddly baby sets for carnival.

Pro-tip: You don't have to buy expensive costumes or order cheap junk from Amazon. Often there are just children's costumes on Ebay classifieds, many theaters rent costumes and most carnival strongholds also have costume rental stores.

Tip No. 3 Food for the carnival party

Young children don't need a fancy buffet at a Mardi Gras party. (Of course, it's great if older kids are having a theme party!!)

It doesn't have to be anything big during the games either, pretzels, colorful sodas and carnival doughnuts are perfectly fine as snacks.

If you like it healthy, you can rely on unsweetened teas and fruits.

Tip No. 4 Shrovetide decoration

Colorful and fun is what it should be. Balloons are so important because the little ones can see them. You can also use balloons for some games and the kids will enjoy them all the time even without "instructions". You really can't have enough of them.

Likewise, garlands and confetti are very interesting and bring a lot of joy to the little ones.
